CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY

PharmaMar supports the responsible protection, conservation and sustainable use of valuable marine resources, upholding the Rio de Janeiro Biodiversity Protocol.

With the aim of continuously improving our management system we have obtained ISO 14,001 and OHSAS 18001 certificates, which will enable us to continue contributing to the knowledge of the marine environment all over the world, thus minimising the impact from our processing and guaranteeing the health of our employees, including both those who work with cytotoxic pharmaceutical active principles and the remainder of the company.

On ecosystems

- Our approach to pharmacological discovery contributes to the development of possible new treatments while using only a few grams of marine sample.

- PharmaMar maintains its firm commitment to research into innovative therapies to promote progress for society and create value for our shareholders.

- We undertake our research to provide solutions that will improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families.

- We invest increasingly more resources in research, basing ourselves on the use of state-of-the-art technology tools to develop innovative therapies for the diseases that plague society and for which an effective remedy has not yet been found, such as cancer.

Knowledge Transfer

- We support training for young scientists through agreements with Spanish and foreign universities and put our trust in the value of collaboration and the transfer of technical knowledge as a means of promoting science and research, and working for the future of society.

- We have work experience and scholarship agreements with several universities, both national and international, for around 25 grant holders a year.

- PharmaMar contributes to greater knowledge of local marine ecosystems and their conservation. The information we obtain from the different expeditions - data which is shared with local communities and educational institutions - is centralised in PharmaMar’s database in order to optimise future exploration.

- We share detailed information on the marine ecosystems in the seas where we undertake our research, as well as taking samples of plant and animal life jointly with the countries which lie around the seas we have researched, thus providing them with a new understanding or concept of their sea’s ecosystems.

• In some cases this is the first report drafted on specific parts of a sea.

Employees

- Our employees are our most important asset, therefore we strive to create a safe and comfortable working atmosphere in conditions that motivate and foster loyalty.

- We promote creativity, initiative and decision-making. We make it easier to combine private life and work, and invest in training programmes and personal and professional development schemes. It is our policy to encourage in-house promotion and the integration of disabled persons within the working environment while believing in the value of creativity and initiative. The company fosters compatibility between home life and work for its professionals through flexible working hours, as well as promoting jobs for disabled persons.

- We are a vanguard organisation as regards the role played by women: PharmaMar employs 58% female staff in the group, of which 60% work in the research area (August 2007 data). A third of our managerial posts (both directors and managers) are held by women.
